Is Save Mart unpatriotic?

My son is finally home in Turlock. It's been an emotional day for me. JD didn't want a party. He didn't want the brass band I would have hired, or the parade I would have created, or the media taking his picture. I would have done pretty much anything to welcome him home, but all he wanted was to come home and spend some quiet time with family and friends. He doesn't think of himself as a hero, and I think it makes him feel uncomfortable. Probably the same way I felt yesterday when Sheriff Jon Lopey (My hero from the reality TV series "Weed Country") called me a hero. Yikes.

So after a few hours of non stop talk JD and his wife left to go munch out at Wing Stop. I did get him to come to a bbq tomorrow, and no JD bbq would be complete without a big "Welcome Home JD" cake. Of course I needed to order it and decided on Save Mart, in Turlock. $23.99 for a 1/4 sheet cake, and it would be enough for JD to have seconds. It was a done deal...until the woman with the accent working the bakery counter told me in no uncertain terms that Save Mart doesn't do military cakes. I stood there rather stunned for several seconds, but I decided to move past her rude remarks, and asked for a cake with an American flag..."We don't do American flags either, how do you expect us to get all 50 stars on the cake, of course we can't".

This is the United States of America, my son just got home from a 9 month tour in Afghanistan with horrible stories to tell, and a Save mart employee is telling me she wont do a military cake or even an American flag.

I left the counter to compose myself and then asked to speak to the Manager. I explained the situation to Steve, and his response was almost as stunning. "We don't do cakes like that," he said. "But in this case I will make an exception as my personal present to your son for his military service"...."Just come in tomorrow and pay $23.99 and it will ready", he said.

Ok so the manager of Save Mart considers me buying a welcome home cake for my son, with an American flag on it...his gift to my son. Isn't that amazing?

How unpatriotic can one grocery store be. Save Mart should be ashamed of themselves for not adding a military style template to their long list of cartoon characters, super hero's, and flowers. They are literally dissing our soldiers.

JEERS to Save Mart.

Maybe for now on you should bake the cake for your son.

It's like going to walmart and getting the accent with the rude service.

Some of these people should not be employed if they're going to be rude and mad at every shopper that decides to checkout.

I am very dissatisfied with SaveMart,WalMart amongst other retail stores. Poor customer service means no patronizing from me, I'll go elsewhere to buy groceries and goods. I now drive to Modesto before I will shop in Ceres anymore.

The woman working the bakery counter was very rude, and I certainly did not appreciate it. It's not too much to ask that Save Mart include a basic military style cake template to their long list of cartoon characters. I understand that they can't use specific military logo's on their cakes. I didn't ask for one.

As a military mom, I was surprised by the way I was treated and Save Mart's lack of support for our troops. It's not everyday that my son returns home from a war. Ordering a cake should be a simple easy process. Get with the program Save Mart! Support our troops!

Update:

I spoke with the manager of Save Mart today. He will have his top cake designer create a basic military themed cake template, and it will be available for sale to anyone who needs or wants one.

I don't want any military parent to have to go through what I did. We have enough to worry about. Ordering a cake to welcome home our children should be simple and easy.

To Save Mart's Geer rd Manager...Greg...Thank you, and I accept your apology.

I find that very odd. I have personally purchased two patriotic cakes from Save Mart on Lander. The first one was the United States Marine Core seal and the second one was 1/2 American Flag and 1/2 Don't Tread On Me Flag. The Marine Core Seal was in their cake book and the 1/2 and 1/2 flag cake I brought in a photo for them to apply.

According to the manager...Save Mart doesn't make specific military logo cakes. It's a copyright infringement issue.

Is this art?
April 15, 2014
I bought some political "art" posters online as one of them caught my eye. I received them yesterday and they're from an art gallery in Aspen, Colorado. I am amazed at what constitutes art these days and alarmed that hate is an acceptable form worthy of limited gallery space. I ...
