Belief in God is the only logical explanation for the universe. I think it is incumbent upon us to look for the evidence of the existence of God in the world around us. God does not expect us to believe without proof, and we should be able to point it out when we see it. Paul in Romans 1 says it’s obvious to the point that the atheist has to “suppress” the truth of the existence of God as the Creator.
I would submit this “suppression of truth” is the cause of much the violence, suicide, drug use, mental illness, and hopelessness in the unbelieving world.
“The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil and no good, nothing but blind pitiless indifference.” Richard Dawkins.
Is it any wonder that as this worldview has infected society, atheist controlled governments have murdered more humans in the 20th century than all previous centuries combined. No good, no evil, nothing but blind pitiless indifference logically leads to the extermination of people being no worse than exterminating bugs or rodents.
Why is it that billions throughout the world believe there is meaning and purpose to existence. That we are part of a larger ‘meta narrative”, that we are moving toward an eternal destiny. Is that just wishful thinking or some kind of group psychosis? Maybe it has something to do with being created in the image of our Creator and even in the midst of complete denial we have a remembrance of where we came from, our purpose and our destination.
“Because God has made us for Himself, our hearts are restless until they rest in Him.”
— St. Augustine of Hippo
The book of Hebrews tells us “faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.” We have plenty of evidence. I would think that the existence of an ordered universe would be proof enough. The atheist worldview is based on undirected random naturalism, yet we exist in a universe which operates upon multiple universal principles. Scientists can describe certain universal characteristics of the world around us, but cannot explain why they would exist in a chaotic random universe. In a universe which has evolved through a totally undirected and random process, a trillion trillion coin flips, how can complexity and order exist? Do you exist in world where chaos and dysfunctional becomes order and functionality? The computer software which is being used to write this becomes corrupted and stays that way or gets worse and eventually becomes unusable unless measures are taken to keep it working correctly. Everything deteriorates and decays. This computer program does not happen by chance. All coded instruction comes from an intelligent mind.
The source of all information is a mind. “There is no known law of nature, no known process and no known sequence of events which can cause information to originate by itself in matter.” p107. In the Beginning Was Information, 1997. Werner Gitt
This includes the genetic code in the DNA which determines whether you are a human or a cucumber. It cannot develop by chance. Copying errors and mutation cannot create new organized coded information. It does not happen. All they can do is rearrange what already exists. This can explain big dogs and little dogs, long haired cats and short haired cats, but not account for a pig sized land animal “evolving” into a whale. That is pure fantasy.ca61
We exist in a creation governed by universal laws of mathematics, logic, physics, and morality. If all is just dumb chance how could anything be universal. Why is there gravity? Why is the Law of gravity always operational in a random undirected universe? In the atheistic worldview we could have the Law of Gravity today and next week it could have changed into the Law of Non Gravity.
Scientists operate on the principle that the 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics are always true, always, but the atheistic scientist cannot say why. Why is it that energy and matter cannot be created or destroyed, only changed? In a random undirected universe there could be no universal laws of physics or mathematics, only dumb chance. 2+2=4 next year might equal 5. Why would there be laws of logic. The law of non contradiction says A cannot, be A, and not be A simultaneously. We just assume that to be true. If I say my car is on the driveway and not on the driveway we don’t run outside to see it. We know that cannot be true. But why is it not true, and why do we know it is not true. These are abstract universal truths that the secular unbeliever would just assume to be true, but cannot explain. They are just that way. These people have to go through the world with blinders on because so much of what they use in their own thinking is really evidence that God does exist.
Everyone would say that the torture of women is wrong, but in a random evolutionary world, why would it be wrong. If it gives the Marquis de Sade pleasure to torture women, then how can a atheist say that it is wrong. If all people are just acting on bio/electrical impulses, who can say that anything is right or wrong and who can judge another’s human conduct. Who can say that the pleasure that de Sade got from torturing women doesn’t outweigh the pain that the women experienced. All the atheist can say is “we all know right from wrong”. Oh really, why would that be if my brain is a separate biological unit from everybody else?
The answer that the atheist cannot and will never be able to provide, is that only God and specifically the God of the bible defines himself and His creation in such a way that all universal laws of nature, laws of logic and universal morality or consistent with Himself and His creation. The proof of the existence of God is obvious because of the impossibility of the contrary. If there were no God, none of us could know or prove anything. The fact that the atheist does know things and operate in this world, is based on the fact that he daily uses the presuppositions which God has established, but suppresses that truth and just claims that “this is just the way things are.” No wonder they are so unhappy.
I would invite my atheist friends to respond with a logical rebuttal and not just a bunch of name calling.ca101 If you think I am just another ignorant bible thumper, than prove me wrong.
